Obituary

McLean, Patricia “Pat”

Patricia Katherine McLean (Benson), age 99 peacefully passed away at Bluewater Health in Sarnia on Sunday May 19, 2024. Pat was the oldest surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to being a loving and doting middle sister to Florence and Audrey, who predeceased her, she was also predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. William (Bill), who passed in 1995. Pat and Bill enjoyed a full and rich life together, traveling the world, sharing adventures and sunsets on the lake, and many evening card games with friends. Later in life, they became Florida snowbirds, where Bill golfed and Pat socialized and quilted with friends, while they anticipated “March break” visits from family. Pat was a devoted mother and is survived by her children, Mark McLean (Norma), Laura Bruce (Ian), and Peter McLean (Kari). She is sadly missed by her grandchildren, Adam, Ryan, Rebecca, Kevin, Andrew, Amy, Mary, Drew and Megan, and great grandchildren, Cassidy, Anna, Corbin, William, Elliot, and Elijah, to whom she will always and tenderly be known as “Nan.” Her pride in her great/grandchildren was paralleled by her fondness as an aunt to many beloved nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Pat was active in and devoted to her community, volunteering for many charitable causes, including the New Hope School. She served on various boards, including the Arthritis Board, the YMCA Board, and the International Symphony Board. Her philanthropic work was an extension of her commitment to her community as a longstanding member in Delta Chi Sigma Sorority. Through this sorority she made many dear and lifelong friends. Among her many talents and pleasures in life, Pat was a gifted quilter. A cherished pastime was quilting and eating hot dogs with the ladies of the Central Baptist Church, where she was a lifelong member. Her enthusiasm for quilting blankets for family and babies was something she enjoyed even just weeks before her passing. Her family would like to thank to the staff at Fairwinds Lodge and Landmark Village for their care over her years living within their homes. A warm and sincere thanks to Dr. Kim and the devoted staff at palliative care, Bluewater Health. Thank you for your kindness and care. A cremation has taken place. A family internment service will take place at a later date. Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Pat’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com. In honour of Pat’s legacy and generosity to her community, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be graciously appreciated.
